GENOCIDE MEMORIAL

Model of Bengali Hindu Genocide Memorial

Ramna Kali temple with is 120 feet high shikhara was the iconic architecture in the centre of Dhaka, symbolizing the millennia old Bengali Hindu civilization in East Pakistan. It was demolished by the Pakistan Army on 27th March, during the Bengali Hindu genocide in 1971. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the demolition i.e. on 26th January 2021, at a press conference held at the Press Club, Kolkata, the structure of future memorial for the Bengali Hindu Genocide was proposed to be modelled on the architecture of the erstwhile Ramna Kali temple.

An wooden prototype model of the Bengali Hindu Genocide memorial, modelled on the erstwhile Ramna Kali temple, painted with lacquer was unveiled at the exhibition on Bengali Hindu Genocide held at the Jamini Roy Gallery of Rabindranath Tagore Centre, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Kolkata on 11th December 2021. The wooden miniature model was mounted on a square base and enclosed in a transparent acrylic casing for the viewers to see.
